MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University senior John Bowman and junior Laura Dziagwa were named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week in track and field for their performance at the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The two Wildcats competed again many NCAA Division I athletes and both had a strong showing at the meet.
Bowman outdistanced his competition by more than 12 feet in the discus. His throw of 177 feet 11 inches earned him first place.
Dziagwa finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and qualified for the NAIA National Championship in the process. Her time of 11:27 set a new record for the Indiana Wesleyan program.
Bowman and Dziagwa will lead the Wildcats at the Polar Bear Invitation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28. The meet will be held at the track in the Outdoor Sports Complex at IWU.
