MARION, Ind. --- Head coach Greg Tonagel and assistant coach David Dimmich have announced that Benton Central High School senior Taylor Schoen will continue his basketball career at Indiana Wesleyan University this fall.
Schoen is a 6-4 forward from Oxford, Indiana. He is a four year letter winner in both basketball and football, and was captain of both sports his junior and senior seasons. He was a three time All-Conference performer in basketball, as well as a two time All-Area selection and winner of the J and C Hoops Classic Sportsmanship Award.
Taylor scored over 1,000 points and had nearly 600 rebounds in his career at Benton Central. He was also selected to the Indiana Football Coaches Association's First Team All-State, with 13 career interceptions. Schoen is a member of the National Honor Society and is an Honor Roll student.
"Taylor is a very versatile athlete who has shown he can achieve at a high level in two different sports," says Tonagel. "We're impressed with his physical and mental toughness, and feel he can be a very solid contributor on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. He also comes from a solid Christian family and exhibits the high ideals and character that we desire in our program."
Schoen averaged 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds as a senior. He also caught 30 passes for 375 yards and six touchdowns and recorded 63 tackles with three interceptions for the Bison football team last fall. Schoen is the fourth member of the Wildcats' recruiting efforts for the 2009 graduating class.
