UPLAND, Ind. (results) -- The Indiana Wesleyan University track and field teams competed in very close Mid-Central College Conference championships this weekend at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana.
The women scored 221 points for a second place finish, just six points shy of conference champion Bethel (Ind.) College with 227 points. Huntington (Ind.) University ended a very distant third with 86 points.
The men's meet was a three team race as the top three teams finished within five points of each other. Bethel won the championship with 166 points and Taylor was runner-up with 162 points. Indiana Wesleyan ended third with 161 points.
Indiana Wesleyan women captured eight conference championships during the weekend, all in running events. IWU won six individual running events and a pair of relays.
Laura Bowman led the Wildcats with three first place finishes. Bowman swept the sprints with a time of 12.21 seconds in the 100-Meter dash and 24.99 seconds in the 200-Meter dash.
Bowman also teamed with Katelin Morgan, Emily Voss and Kristen Cline to grab the conference title in the 4 x 100-Meter Relay in a meet record 48.64 seconds.
Morgan also won an individual championship in the 100-Meter Hurdles. She crossed the line in 14.94 seconds.
Also winning multiple MCC titles was Lindsey Waggoner. Waggoner won the 800-Meter run in 2:18.36. She then anchored the winning 4 x 800-Meter Relay team with Amanda Johnson, Kailee Whitaker and Cassidy Wagner. The relay team set a new meet record with a time of 9:21.58.
The Wildcats won a pair of distance events as Christy Bea won the 5,000-Meter run in 18:40.60 while Laura Dziagwa raced to the victory in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase as she ran a time of 11:41.67.
The Wildcat men earned six MCC championships. IWU won two distance events, one relay and three field events.
Josh Foss raced to victory in the 1,500-Meter run in a time of 3:55.95. He also anchored the 4 x 800-Meter Relay team that included Dan Carrick, Ethan Naylor and Eric Brown. The relay team won in a time of 7:48.69.
John Bowman also brought home a pair of MCC titles. Bowman won the Discus with a mark of 53.93-meters and the Hammer Throw with a toss of 55.08-meters.
Also winning a field event was James Schortgen. He won the Javelin in a mark of 53.99-meters.
Completing the conference championships for Indiana Wesleyan was Bryan Hazel. He won the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase in a time of 9:27.35.
The Wildcats will next compete in the NCCAA National Championships which will be hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. The nationals will be held from April 30-May 2.
