MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University track and field teams completed the NCCAA National Championships on Saturday as IWU hosted the event.

The men finished third place while the women took fourth.

Bethel (Ind.) College out-distanced the field in the men's competition with 147 points. Malone (Ohio) College was runner-up with 133 points and Indiana Wesleyan was third with 123 points.

Malone captured the championship in the women's meet with 170 points. Bethel finished second at 149.25 points and Cedarville (Ohio) University placed third with 147.25 points. Indiana Wesleyan earned 135.25 points.

On Saturday, the IWU women's 4 x 100-Meter relay team raced to a national championship. The team of sophomore Katelin Morgan, junior Emily Voss, senior Kristen Cline and junior Laura Bowman crossed the line in a time of 48.36 seconds.

For the men, Wildcat senior Bryan Hazel broke a 13 year old track record in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase. Hazel won the national title in a time of 9:13.89 which was 10 seconds better than the runner-up.

Senior John Bowman won his second title on the weekend in the Hammer Throw. Bowman's toss of 185 feet / 56.40-meters won him the championship by over 10 feet.

Also in throwing events, sophomore James Schortgen earned the victory in the Javelin. His throw of 185 feet / 56.38-meters out marked second place by nearly 12 feet.

In all, the men's team won five national titles over the weekend while the women earned two.
