CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Two Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis doubles teams have reached the quarterfinal round of the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament being held in Cedarville, Ohio.
Juniors Lisa Massey and Eva Delk defeated a team from University of Northwestern Ohio 8-4 to advance to the round of eight. On the other half of the bracket, Indiana Wesleyan freshmen Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson also earned a spot in the quarterfinals with an 8-2 victory over a duo from Indiana University-Southeast.
In the women's 32-team singles tournament, one Wildcat advanced past the round of 16.
Massey won 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round and proceeded to capture a 6-2, 6-0 victory to advance to the quarterfinals. But Massey's run ended with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat.
Senior Courtney Kooyers earned a 6-4, 6-3 win in the first round, but lost in the second round 6-0, 6-1 to the tournament's top seed. Junior Caitlin McGuire pulled out a 6-0, 6-0 win in the first round then lost 6-3, 6-3 to the No. 6-seed in the second round.
The fourth Wildcat in the tournament, Meyering, lost a 6-4, 6-3 match in the opening round.
On the men's side, junior Matt Pederson reached the quarterfinals of the singles tournament with wins of 6-0, 6-3 in the first round and 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. Pederson lost 6-2, 6-2 in his quarterfinal match.
Junior Micah May advanced out of the first round with a 6-4, 6-4 win but lost 6-1, 7-6 in the second round.
Two Wildcats fell in the opening round. Senior Ben Bischoff lost 7-5, 6-1 to the top seed in the tournament while senior Carson VandenBossche was beaten 6-2, 6-1.
Neither of the two doubles teams advanced past the first round.
The pair of Pederson and VandenBossche lost 8-5 to the tournament's No. 4-seed while No. 2-seed May and Bischoff were upset 8-6.
The ITA Midwest Regional Tournament continues through Saturday, September 19.
