MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University hosted the IWU Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning at the Outdoor Sports Complex.
The women's team finished first of four teams while the men took second of three.
In the women's race, Indiana Wesleyan tallied 23 points to coast to the victory. Taylor (Ind.) University was second with 51 points, St. Joseph's (Ind.) College was third at 86 points and Grace (Ind.) College placed fourth with 87 points.
Former Wildcat runner Emily LaSala won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18 minutes one second. Taylor's Alyssa Johnson was the first runner in the competition to cross the line in a time of 19:12.
Indiana Wesleyan had a pack of runners take seven of the next eight spots of the race.
The top-five scorers for the Wildcats were: Beka Bentle (2nd, 19:21), Cassidy Wagner (3rd, 19:25), Laura Dziagwa (5th, 19:34), Kailee Whitaker (6th, 19:36) and Emily Dean (7th, 19:43).
Angela Arvoy (8th, 19:46) and Anna Morgan (9th, 19:48) completed the IWU pack and their top seven.
For the men, Taylor edged Indiana Wesleyan for the team victory by a 40-33 margin. St. Joseph's was third with 54 points and Grace did not field a complete team.
Ethan Naylor took home the individual win as he finished the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:58. The next four Wildcats to finish and score were: Andrew Albert (7th, 26:53), Mason Webb (9th, 27:08), Doug Alles (11th, 27:18) and Ethan Laudermilch (12th, 27:41).
Indiana Wesleyan will race again next week as the Wildcats participate in the Bethel College Invitational on Saturday, October 10 in Mishawaka, Indiana.
