GREENTOWN, Ind. -- Rain storms forced the Mid-Central College Conference Women's Tennis Tournament indoors at the Howard County Tennis Center in Greentown, Indiana.
The rain did not slow down Indiana Wesleyan University as the Wildcats won eight of nine matches during the first day of the three day tournament.
All three Indiana Wesleyan doubles teams advanced to the semifinals in their eight-team classification bracket.
No. 4-seed Lisa Massey and Eva Delk won 8-6 in No. 1-doubles, No. 1-seed Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson won 8-0 in No. 2-doubles and top-seed Courtney Kooyers and Caitlin McGuire won 8-1 in No. 3-doubles.
Indiana Wesleyan completed the first day of play with five wins in six singles matches.
In No. 1-singles play, No.-4seed Massey dropped a three set match 3-6, 6-1, 7-10. No. 2-seed Meyering won 6-1, 6-0 and No. 1-seed Delk won No. 3-singles 6-0, 6-0. No. 4-seed Wilson won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4-singles, No. 1-seed Kooyers captured a 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 5-singles and top-seed McGuire won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan and Taylor (Ind.) University are tied for the lead following Thursday play with eight points. Marian (Ind.) University is third with seven points, Grace (Ind.) College is fourth with six points and Huntington (Ind.) University is fifth at five points. The other four schools did not have a player advance out of the first round.
Semifinals matches will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 9 at the Howard County Tennis Center.
