MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis wrapped up the fall season with a Mid-Central College Conference Tournament championship on Saturday afternoon at the Sutter Tennis Center on the campus of IWU.
The Wildcats edged Taylor (Ind.) University 21-18 for the victory. The teams were tied with 15 points heading into the final day of the three day championship.
Indiana Wesleyan won two of three doubles championships while Taylor won the other for a one point lead for IWU heading into the singles finals.
The top -seeded tandem of Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson defeated a team from Taylor 8-6 in No. 2-doubles. Courtney Kooyers and Caitlin McGuire were also the top-seed in No. 3-doubles and picked up a point over Taylor with an 8-4 victory.
Taylor earned two points in singles play with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 competitions. In No. 2-singles, IWU's Meyering lost 4-6, 4-6.
The Wildcats depth completed the team championship by earning victories from No. 3 to No. 6.
Top-seed Eva Delk won No. 3-singles 6-3, 6-3 over a Taylor player, No. 4-seed Wilson took No. 4-singles by a 6-1, 6-2 score, top-seed Kooyers earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 5-singles and No. 1-seed McGuire was victorious 6-3, 6-4 in No. 6-singles.
In all, Indiana Wesleyan won six of the nine MCC championships on Saturday, plus the team title.
