SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Both Indiana Wesleyan University cross country teams won the Bethel Invitational on Saturday morning in South Bend, Indiana.

Each race contained six teams and the course was held at St. Patrick's Park. Five of the six participating programs were from the MCC.

The men's team placed four runners in the top seven spots to out-distance Taylor (Ind.) University 30-49. St. Xavier (Ill.) University was third with 54 points.

IWU sophomore Ethan Naylor won the individual championship as he crossed the line at 26 minutes four seconds on the 8,000-meter course. Freshman Andrew Albert was fourth with 26:39 while closely followed by teammates freshman Mason Webb (6th, 26:57) and senior Doug Alles (7th, 27:01). Completing the scoring for Indiana Wesleyan was sophomore Ethan Laudermilch in 12th place with a time of 27:30.

In the women's race, the Wildcats cruised to an easy victory by placing three of the top five runners and seven of the first 13. IWU ended the meet with 30 points and St. Xavier finished runner-up with 71 points.

Senior Kailee Whitaker was the top finisher for Indiana Wesleyan with a second place finish in a time of 19:00 on the 5,000-meter course. Sophomore Beka Bentle was close behind in third place with a 19:05 and senior Laura Dziagwa was fifth as she raced to a 19:07.

Rounding out the Wildcat scoring were freshman Emily Dean (9th, 19:17) and junior Cassidy Wagner (12th, 19:22). On their heels for the Wildcats were sophomore Anna Morgan (13th, 19:23) and junior Angela Arvoy (14th, 19:24).

Indiana Wesleyan will take a weekend off and return to action on Saturday, October 24 when the Wildcats take part in the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
