In the final week before winter sports take to the court, Indiana Wesleyan fall sports finished up their regular season or started postseason action.

The Wildcats hosted a pair of Mid-Central College Conference Tournament First Round matches on Saturday and the home teams left a very muddy field victoriously. Also in the mud on Tuesday night, the women's soccer team earned some hardware with a 7-0 win over Goshen that clinched a share of the MCC regular season championship. It was the 11th season out of the last 12 that the Wildcats have won at least a share of the title. Three men's soccer student-athletes were recognized for their play during the regular season and were named to the MCC All-Conference First Team.

The NAIA released the Top-25 Coaches' Preseason Poll this week. Both Wildcat teams were recognized in the rankings.

Volleyball celebrated Senior Night and a big victory over Bethel on Tuesday night. On the weekend, Indiana Wesleyan competed very well against some stiff competition at the Trojan Challenge in Upland.

*** Spenser Lang did not allow a goal during regulation time for the men's soccer team which led to his third MCC Player of the Week honor this season. He made 14 saves on 15 shots on goal while racking up one shutout to end the regular season for IWU

*** Indiana Wesleyan was named a NAIA Champion of Character for the 2008-09 season. The NAIA and member institutions use the Champions of Character program to instill an understanding of character values in sport, and provide student-athletes, coaches and parents the training to help them know and do the right things, inside and outside the sports setting

*** Following a Sweet 16 appearance last year and returning the core of the team, the women's basketball program will begin No. 14 in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Wildcats open the season at home with a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, November 7 at Luckey Arena

*** A year removed from the program's second ever trip to the NAIA Elite Eight, the men's basketball team is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Preseason Poll. The men begin their season on the road this weekend on November 6-7 at the Purdue-Calumet Tip-Off Classic

*** Volleyball celebrated their only senior in Kelli Ziegler on Tuesday night on Senior Night against Bethel. The pregame ceremony ended with a postgame ceremony as the Wildcats downed the Pilots 3-1

*** A rainy Tuesday night could not dampen the women's soccer team as their 7-0 win over Goshen clinched a share of the MCC regular season title. IWU has won at least the regular season or tournament championship in each of the last 12 years

*** On Thursday the MCC released the men's soccer All-Conference teams. Spenser Lang, Mitch Lobdell and Ross Tanzer were honored as selections to the MCC First-Team

*** Volleyball continued their hot play over the weekend at the Trojan Challenge in Upland, Indiana. IWU defeated Trinity Christian but lost to No. 7-ranked Columbia and lost 3-2 to No. 17 Taylor

*** Freshmen Kelsey Johnston and Kylie Dial scored all three goals for the women's soccer team in a 3-0 Wildcat victory over Bethel in the MCC Tournament First Round on Saturday. The win for No. 14 IWU advances the Wildcats to the MCC Tournament Semifinals with a home match versus Spring Arbor on Saturday

*** The men's soccer team concluded the Saturday soccer doubleheader win a thrilling 3-2 double overtime win over Saint Francis in the MCC Tournament First Round. Erik Johnson scored twice in less than five minutes to give IWU a 2-1 lead midway through the second half. USF tied the score with under three minutes to play and force OT. Mitch Lobdell capped the night with the golden goal as less than one minute remained before shootouts. IWU will next play at Goshen on Saturday in the MCC Tournament Semifinals
