MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis signed Marion High School senior standout Kristen Futrell on Thursday afternoon.
The No. -1 singles player for the Giants since her freshman year has tallied an excellent record of 48-9 from the top spot in high school. Futrell is 20-1 in the North Central Conference and will finish her senior year in the spring.
"Kristen will come in next year and make a great impact on our team. She should be battling for the top position on our team. She still has her high school spring season and the summer to improve her play even more."
Futrell has made quite a name for herself in Marion under Giants head coach Doug Porter, son of IWU head coach Terry Porter.
The senior reached the Indiana State Finals as a sophomore and was also named All-State Second team that season. Futrell was also named All-State Honorable Mention during her freshman and junior seasons.
Porter said, "We look forward to her having a superb four year career at Indiana Wesleyan. Being in Marion, Kristen will have great support and following from family and friends during her collegiate career."
Indiana Wesleyan finished the fall season 11-0 and has won 18 consecutive Mid-Central College Conference championships dating back to 1992.
