CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The NCCAA National Championship was on Saturday in Cedarville, Ohio and Indiana Wesleyan University women's cross country earned third place in the 19 team field.
Despite not having a runner in the top-10, Indiana Wesleyan finished third with 99 points. Host Cedarville (Ohio) University won the national championship with 40 points and Malone (Ohio) University was runner-up with 57 points.
All five Wildcats who scored for Indiana Wesleyan finished within 36 seconds of each other.
The top runner was junior Cassidy Wagner. She finished 11th place (10th in team competition) after completing the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19 minutes two seconds.
Junior Angela Arvoy was the next Wildcat at 19:20. Her time was good for 17th overall and 16th in the team score. Sophomore Amanda Johnson was close behind in 19:25 which landed her 20th and 19th in the team score.
Senior Laura Dziagwa earned 24th place (23rd in the team score) with a time of 19:33 while senior Kailee Whitaker rounded out the IWU scoring with a 27th place finish (25th in team score) after racing to a time of 19:38.
Katie Gillespie for Cedarville won the individual national championship in a time of 17:39, 54 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Wagner was named NCCAA All-American courtesy of her top-15 finish in the national meet. Senior Jessica Moffitt, junior Sarah Moyer and junior Alisha Nussbaum also were honored as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes for their academic excellence.
Indiana Wesleyan will complete their season next weekend as the Wildcats participate in the NAIA National Championship. The race will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, November 21 in Vancouver, Washington.
