MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball junior forward Kayla Thompson drained a 3-point basket early in the second half against Bethel (Ind.) College on Wednesday evening to reach 1,000 career points.

Thompson is the second Wildcat this season to reach the milestone as junior forward Elaine Hessel accomplished the feat on January 7 against Spring Arbor (Mich.) University. She becomes the 22nd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

The Indianapolis, Indiana native has been a steady presence in the Wildcat lineup since coming to campus as a freshman in the 2007-08 season. She has averaged more than 10 points per contest during her freshman and sophomore seasons. Thompson scored 353 points in her rookie campaign and 351 points a season ago.

Thompson is currently second on Indiana Wesleyan with 12.5 points per game and 299 total points. She is on pace to shoot over 40.0-percent from the 3-point line for the second consecutive season.

In addition to her scoring prowess, Thompson is just 10 assists shy of the program's top-10 in career assists with 316 and is on pace to finish in the top-20 in career rebounds.

For the season Thompson is currently averaging 12.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 steals for No. 7-ranked Indiana Wesleyan.
