MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University indoor track and field served as host for the second consecutive weekend with the IWU Invitational in the Indoor Sports Complex.
The invitational featured some big programs such as Ball State (Ind.) University and the University of Indianapolis, in addition to some Mid-Central College Conference programs and NCAA Division III schools.
Indiana Wesleyan captured four NAIA qualifiers in addition to four event wins and four meet records.
Junior Cassidy Wagner won the 1,000-meter run in 3:08.92 to earn a new meet record.
A pair for women's relay teams captured provisional qualifiers for the NAIA National Championship meet. The 4x800-meter relay team raced to a 9:51.57 to win the event in addition to setting a new meet record. The distance medley team placed third with a time of 12:59.11 to also earn a provisional.
The 4x800-meter relay team consisted of sophomore Amanda Johnson, senior Kailee Whitaker, sophomore Brooke McGaughey and senior Cassidy Wagner. Junior Angi Wolgemuth joined McGaughey, Whitaker and Wagner to make up the distance medley team.
Freshman Jason Wenzel finished first in the men's 800-meter run. His time of 1:55.39 is a new meet record and qualifies him for the NAIA national meet. Senior Thomas Collet jumped 23 feet 8 inches in the men's long jump for a second place finish and a qualifying mark for the NAIA.
The men's 4x800-meter relay team of senior Josh Schweigert, freshman Matt Mitchell, freshman Andrew Albert and sophomore Ethan Naylor set a new meet record as their time of 8:12.85 was good enough for first place.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the track next Saturday as the Wildcats compete at the Taylor Invitational in Upland, Indiana on February 6.
