CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Indiana Wesleyan University opened the 2010 season with a victory in their first day of competition at the Bryan Tournament in Tennessee.

The Wildcats dropped a 6-3 decision to University of Rio Grande (Ohio) in their first game of the day but rebounded for a 12-7 victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) College.

Indiana Wesleyan is playing in the four team pool with games being played at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. IWU finishes pool play on Saturday against host Tennessee Temple and will then compete against an opponent from the Bryan (Tenn.) College pool to close out the tournament.

The highlight of the opening game defeat to Rio Grande was the production of freshman outfielder Peter Engle. In his first collegiate game Engle hit a home run.

Freshman Sam Lewis led the Wildcats to victory over Emmanuel in game two with the win on the mound while junior Jonathan Bastian was credited with the save.

Senior third baseman Ben Zachary was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate while sophomore shortstop Brice Davis was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI. Freshman Quinn Nofziger, another freshman making an impact on Friday, finished 2-for-3 at the plate with one run batted in.

Indiana Wesleyan will play Tennessee Temple tomorrow at 1 p.m. and will play at 4 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
