MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University is ranked No. 7 in the final NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top-25 Poll for the 2009-10 regular season, released Monday night.
Indiana Wesleyan clinched an outright Mid-Central College Conference regular season championship this week with victories over Grace (Ind.) College and current No. 25-ranked Taylor (Ind.) University.
The Wildcats are 25-5 overall and finished conference play with a 14-2 record. The MCC title is the first for IWU since the 2006-07 season when the Wildcats won the NAIA National Championship with a perfect 38-0 record.
Indiana Wesleyan leads a list of four MCC programs ranked in the Top-25 Poll. University of Saint Francis (Ind.) is No. 12, Huntington (Ind.) University is No. 18 and Taylor (Ind.) University completes the poll at No. 25.
Hastings (Neb.) College ends the regular season at the No. 1 team with all 16 first place votes for 436 points. Davenport (Mich.) University is second at 422 points and Northwestern (Iowa) College is third with 408 points. Indiana Wesleyan gained 358 points in the poll.
Indiana Wesleyan opens postseason play on Tuesday, February 23 when No. 1-seed IWU hosts No. 8-seed Spring Arbor (Mich.) University in the MCC Tournament First Round. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Luckey Arena.
