MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University went from unranked earlier in the season all the way to No. 3 in the final regular season NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top-25 Poll, released Monday evening.
The No. 3 ranking ties a program high in the national poll. The only other ranking to feature Indiana Wesleyan this high came on February 7, 2007. Indiana Wesleyan was ranked No. 3 with a 23-2 record and earned two first place votes.
The current ranking comes after a week which saw the Wildcats clinch the Mid-Central College Conference regular season championship for the third time in program history with a pair of road victories at Grace (Ind.) College and Taylor (Ind.) University. The title is the third in the last four seasons and the first ever outright championship for the Wildcats.
Walsh (Ohio) University remains No. 1 this week with 15-of-16 first place votes for 436 points. Oregon Tech received the other first place vote and is second with 421 points. Indiana Wesleyan garnered 393 points in the ranking.
Three other MCC schools join Indiana Wesleyan in the Top-25. Bethel (Ind.) College is No. 10, University of Saint Francis (Ind.) is No. 15 and Spring Arbor (Mich.) University is No. 21.
The Wildcats will open postseason play on Wednesday, February 24 as the No. 1-seed in the MCC Tournament. IWU will host No. 8-seed Huntington (Ind.) University at 7 p.m. in Luckey Arena for the MCC Tournament First Round.
