MARION, Ind. -- After leading the Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball team to the NAIA Division II Final Four, junior forward Elaine Hessel was selected NAIA All-American First Team and junior guard Kayla Thompson was tagged NAIA All-American Honorable Mention.
For Hessel, the award caps a spectacular season that saw her garner Mid-Central College Conference Player of the Year and All-MCC First Team honors. The Plymouth, Indiana native
was also named to the NAIA Division II National Championship All-Tournament Team.
Although Hessel was named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention and NCCAA All-American First Team as a sophomore, she showed marked improvement in her junior campaign by averaging 18.8 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. Hessel finished third in the nation with in field goal percentage at 60.6-percent.
Thompson receives the honor of All-American Honorable Mention after averaging 11.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Thompson was honored by the MCC by being named to the All-MCC First Team.
The Indianapolis, Indiana native was ninth in the country with 86 3-pointers and was 24th in 3-point percentage at 40.0-percent.
Indiana Wesleyan finished the season with a 29-7 record and made the program's second ever appearance in the NAIA National Championship semifinals.
