WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams faced some elite competition over the weekend at the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Wildcats competed against programs from top conference in NCAA Division I among others. Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina, Ohio University, West Virginia University, Duke University and University of Pennsylvania were a few of the schools to compete against Indiana Wesleyan.
In the large meet, 10 Wildcats in eight events placed in the top-10.
The Men's Long Jump featured the most success for the Wildcats. Senior Thomas Collet placed third with a mark of 23 feet eight inches while freshman Seth Virgil was ninth at 22-3.5 feet.
The Indiana Wesleyan women also placed two in the top-10 in one event, the Women's 10,000-Meter Run. Junior Kelsey Devereaux crossed the line fourth in a time of 38 minutes 15.38 seconds while junior Sarah Moyer ended 10th in 39:56.22.
Indiana Wesleyan finished the weekend with three more men and three more women finishing in the top-10 in individual events.
For the women, senior Laura Dziagwa raced to seventh place in the Women's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase in 11:30.98.
Senior Laura Bowman was 10th in the Women's 100-Meter Dash in a time of 12.49 seconds while sophomore Victoria Lee was also 10th in the Women's Hammer Throw with a mark of 139-1 feet.
On the men's side, freshman Justin Schortgen was seventh in the Men's Hammer Throw. His high mark was 153-10 feet.
A pair of distance runners rounded out the fine weekend for the Wildcats.
Sophomore Ethan Naylor placed eighth in the Men's 1,500-Meter Run in a finishing time of 3:57.72 while freshman Andrew Albert earned eighth in the Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase in 9:51.75.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the track next weekend as IWU hosts the annual Polar Bear Invitational on Saturday, March 27. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m.
