Men's Outdoor Track & Field - Sat, May 1, 2010

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University outdoor men's track and field captured it sixth Mid-Central College Conference championship on Saturday and the third in four years at Goshen, Indiana.

Indiana Wesleyan gained 160 points and Taylor (Ind.) University was runner-up with 148.5 points. Bethel was right behind Taylor with 147 points. Indiana Wesleyan last won MCC titles in 2007 and 2008.

The Wildcats earned the team victory with only three event titles during the weekend.

Seth Virgil was the big winner for the Wildcats on Saturday with a pair of individual MCC titles. Virgil won the 100-Meter Dash in 11.24 seconds and the 200-Meter Dash with a time of 22.14 seconds. Both wins netted the Wildcats 10 points.

The third event championship for Indiana Wesleyan belonged to Jason Wenzel. He won a tight race in the 800-Meter Run in a time of 1:54.78. Wenzel won the race by .05 seconds over Nathan Kirsch of Taylor.

Indiana Wesleyan completed the weekend with six second place finishes. Each second place gained eight points for IWU.

Eric Brown ran 49.12 seconds to earn runner-up in the 400-Meter Dash and Jeff Stuttler also had a second place run in the 400-Meter Hurdles. Stuttler crossed the line in 55.41 seconds. Ethan Naylor was the third Wildcat to place second in a track event with his time in the 5,000-Meter Run. Naylor finished in 15:18.09.

The Wildcats tallied two field event runner-up finishes on Friday with Jonathon Carder in the Pole Vault (13-9.25 feet) and Thomas Collet in the Long Jump (23-1.75 feet). Joining Carder and Collet on Saturday with a runner-up spot was Derek Gay in the Triple Jump. Gay earned a mark of 43-9.75 feet.

The Wildcats will next compete in the Bill Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana at the track of Indiana University.
