MARION, Ind. -- Peyton Thompson, a 5-11 transfer middle hitter, has committed to be a part of the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team for the 2010 season.
 
Thompson graduated from 5A Plano High School in Plano, Texas, lettering three years in volleyball. She was also named to the All-District team during her junior and senior seasons leading her team to a District championship, an Area championship and runner-up in the Regional finals her senior year.
 
Following high school, Thompson signed a letter of intent to play for East Carolina University. In her freshmen year, she played in 18 matches and 33 games for the Pirates. Highlights from that year include turning in her first collegiate start against Furman University in the East Carolina Invitational on August 26th and on September 12th posting her first double-digit kill match with 11 against Campbell University.
 
As a sophomore, Thompson exploded on the court participating in 31 matches and 107 games. She hit .251 with 232 kills, 10 assists, 36 service aces, 91 digs, nine solo blocks and 92 block assists for the year. Her season high came against University of Central Florida on November 3rd where she had a hitting percentage of .625.
 
Other highlights for the season included 17 kills against Marshall University on Oct. 21, season-high seven digs three times, and five service aces against Southern Methodist University on November 15th. She also garnered season-high seven blocks three times.
 
"We are extremely excited about the addition of Peyton to our volleyball team," says Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. "With Division I experience and maturity, Peyton brings to a young team intensity, fierceness and passion. She also knows the personal drive it takes on and off the court to succeed and help her team to reach high goals."
