MASON, Ohio -- The No. 1-seed and defending NCCAA national champion Bluefield (Va.) College defeated the Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team 8-2 on Wednesday night at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
Rightfielder Derek Freds crushed a two run home run in the fourth inning to give Indiana Wesleyan a brief 2-1 lead. But Bluefield countered in the fifth inning with a three-run home run for a 4-2 advantage and added four more in the sixth for the 8-2 victory and a date with Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
No. 9-seed Indiana Wesleyan drops down to the losers bracket and will play the winner of No. 3-seed Malone (Ohio) College and No. 7-seed Southeastern (Fla.) University at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Legacy Field.
Before the game, recording artist and former member of 4Him, Mark Harris, sang the national anthem and Anthony Muņoz, considered one of the greatest offensive lineman in NFL history, threw out the first pitch.
