Men's Basketball - Fri, Jul 2, 2010

MARION, Ind. -- Zach Coverstone has made an immediate impact in his first two months in Australia.

After a record setting men's basketball career at Indiana Wesleyan University where he finished with 1,839 points, 1,074 rebounds and 289 blocks, Coverstone has continued his dominant performance in his first season of professional basketball. Coverstone is averaging 16.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for the Wannero Wolves of the State Basketball League.

Coverstone excelled from the beginning for the Wolves, scoring 23 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in his first game as a pro. That performance was topped the following night when Coverstone scored 28 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and made the game winner with six seconds left.

"Being a professional basketball player has been a dream come true as well as an awesome opportunity to see other parts of the world," says Coverstone. "The caliber of basketball has been great, with a few players in the league who were NBA draft picks and many others who play all over the world during the fall season. I have also had opportunities to do plenty of sightseeing around Australia, which has created memories that I will have with me for the rest of my life."

Another exciting moment occurred on Saturday night, as the Wolves struggled through the first three quarters and were trailing 78-59. The fourth quarter was a different story, as the Wolves outscored their opponents 47-14 to win the game 106-92.

"It was the most exciting twelve minutes of basketball I have ever played," said Coverstone, who finished the game with 25 points and 12 rebounds, including 19 in the second half.

The Wolves have shot up the standings since Coverstone joined the team, getting eight wins and moving from eighth place to fourth place in just twelve games. With only three games left in the regular season, the Wolves are sitting in prime position to make the playoffs.
