MARION, Ind. -- Former Indiana Wesleyan University pitcher Brandon Beachy was selected to compete in the Double-A Southern League All-Star Game in Huntsville, Alabama on July 12.

Beachy was the first relief pitcher used for the South All-Stars in the third inning. He pitched one inning and did not allow a base runner while striking out two. The North All-Stars won 3-2.

Beachy plays for the Mississippi Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Kokomo, Indiana native played for Indiana Wesleyan from 2005-08 and was signed as a non-drafted free agent before his senior season.

He is currently in his third professional season with the Braves. Beachy competed at the Rookie-level in 2008 and pitched in Single-A in 2009.

The right handed pitcher earned a promotion to Double-A Mississippi to open this season and has excelled. He started the year in relief and compiled a 1.40 ERA in 21 appearances. His last four appearances have been starts where he is 2-0 with a 0.72 ERA.

Overall in 2010, Beachy is 3-1 with a 1.13 ERA in 63-2/3 innings pitched. He has allowed just 45 hits and 19 walks while striking out 80. Batters are hitting just .199 on him this season.
