MARION, Ind. -- Former Indiana Wesleyan University pitcher Brandon Beachy continued his climb up the ladder in the Atlanta Braves farm system as he was recently promoted to AAA Gwinnett (Ga.).
Beachy earned the promotion after a dominating four month stint at AA Mississippi. During his time in the Southern League, the right hander 3-1 with a 1.47 ERA in 27 games, including the final six being starts. Beachy was named a Southern League All-Star for his effort.
In 73-2/3 innings for the Mississippi Braves, Beachy struck out 100 batters with just 22 walks and 53 hits. Batters hit just .200 off the Kokomo, Indiana native.
Beachy was signed as an undrafted free agent in July, 2008 by the Atlanta Braves. That season he made two appearances for Rookie-level Danville and in 2009 played at two levels of A league ball in Myrtle Beach and Rome. Beachy earned one appearance at AA Mississippi to conclude that year.
In his first appearance at Gwinnett on Tuesday, Beachy pitched four innings of relief. He allowed three runs on five hits but struck out seven with only one walk.
