MARION, Ind. -- Senior midfielder Mitch Lobdell scored a pair of goals in the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer 3-2 home opening victory over Robert Morris (Ill.) College on Monday night at Wildcat Field.

Lobdell scored the game-winner in the 53rd minute with junior midfielder Josh McKinley getting credit for the assist. The goal was the only score in the second half as the Wildcats improve to 2-2-0 on the season.

Lobdell opened the scoring with a tally in the 24th minute for a 1-0 IWU advantage. SBen Stoddardenior forward David Trainer connected with a through ball from the right side and Lobdell drove the ball to the net from the middle of the box.

Eight minutes later senior midfielder Austin Bock scored from the right side of the box for a 2-0 Indiana Wesleyan lead. Senior midfielder Kyle Joern and sophomore midfielder Lucas Carpenter assisted on the play after moving the ball across the field from the left side.

But Robert Morris struck quickly to tie the score before halftime.

Eagle freshman midfielder Frane Strmic connected on a goal in the 37th minute off a corner kick and he followed with a second goal less than a minute later to swiftly tie the match 2-2. The score remained tied through the half with Robert Morris holding a slight 8-7 advantage in shots.

IWU junior goalkeeper Nick Platt was credited with the win in net as he made one save. Platt had a quiet second half as RMC did not record a shot in the final 45 minutes of play. Overall, IWU outshot RMC 11-8.

Indiana Wesleyan will next play at the Cedarville Classic this upcoming weekend. IWU will play No. 4-ranked University of Rio Grande (Ohio) at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 10 and then Cedarville (Ohio) University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.
