MARION, Ind. -- The American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) announced its NAIA All-Region and NCCAA All-American Teams and two Indiana Wesleyan University student-athletes were recognized.
Sophomore setter Yui Iwase was named to the NAIA Mideast All-Region Team while freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes was tagged to the NCCAA All-American Team.
Iwase was one of 14 student-athletes selected to the NAIA All-Region team and was one of four setters on the team. She also was one five players on the team from the Mid-Central College Conference.
The Plano, Texas native averaged 10.7 assists and 2.2 digs per set. She served 30 aces in 2010 and added seven solo and 77 assist blocks.
Brandes was the lone freshman to represent the 14-player NCCAA All-American list. She was in fact just one of two underclassmen to make the cut.
The Twin Lakes, Wisconsin native finished an excellent all around rookie season with 2.9 kills and 3.1 digs per set. She totaled 22 aces in addition to eight solo blocks and 63 block assists.
Iwase and Brandes were integral members of the 2010 NCCAA National Championship team. Indiana Wesleyan won their final 10 matches of 2010, all of which were in NCCAA postseason play at the regional and national tournaments. Overall, IWU was 33-11 on the season.
