NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team began the 2011-12 campaign Saturday with a 9-0 victory over host IU-Southeast in New Albany, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan (1-0) quickly secured three points in doubles as IU-Southeast could manage no more than two points in any of the three matches. The junior team of Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson earned an 8-1 win in No. 1-doubles, sophomores Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell won 8-1 in No. 2-doubles while senior Aubrey Lohser teamed with freshman Kim Mella for an 8-2 win in No. 3-doubles.
The Wildcats also won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Heiniger won 6-0, 6-3 in No. 1-singles, Wilson took an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 2-singles and Meyering was victorious 6-4, 6-2 in No. 3-singles. Futrell captured a 6-0, 6-1 No. 4-singles win, sophomore Sarah Richert won No. 5-singles by a score of 6-4, 6-0 and freshman Diane Jones won No. 6-singles 6-1, 6-1.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the courts at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31 with the Mid-Central College Conference opener at Bethel (Ind.) College in Mishawaka, Indiana.
