MARION, Ind. (Box Score) -- No. 17-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer scratched out a 1-0 victory despite many chances Friday night versus Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College in the IWU Classic at Wildcat Field.
Despite the close score, Indiana Wesleyan outshot the visitors 24-6 and had a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. IWU held a distinct advantage in the second half when they peppered Roberts Wesleyan with 15 total shots.
The Wildcats lone goal came in the 62nd minute. IWU junior Kylie Dial beat goalkeeper Breanna Maggio with the assist being credited to freshman midfielder Tracey Tiernon. Dial finished the night with 14 shots and five shots on goal.
Junior keeper Jamie Speidel earned the victory in net for Indiana Wesleyan. It was her second career shutout as she was not forced to even make a save.
Spring Arbor (Mich.) University won the opening match of the IWU Classic by a 4-1 margin over Georgetown (Ky.) College.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 3-2-0 this season and will next play Georgetown tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. Spring Arbor and Roberts Wesleyan open the day with a 5 p.m. kickoff. Roberts Wesleyan, receiving votes in the last poll, falls to 3-1-1.
