Women's Cross Country - Sat, Sep. 17, 2011

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (Results) -- Saturday marked the first meet of the season for the Indiana Wesleyan University women's cross country team at the Friendship Invitational in Cedarville, Ohio.

Indiana Wesleyan captured a third place finish in the season opener for the team. The seven scoring teams represented the NAIA and all three divisions of the NCAA.

The 10th ranked Wildcats scored 90 points in the meet for the third place finish. Host Cedarville (Ohio) University won the invitational with 57 points and Wilmington (Ohio) College captured runner-up with 77 points.

Senior Beka Bentle was the top runner for Indiana Wesleyan with a time of 19 minutes and 12 seconds. Bentle was sixth overall in the 106-runner field. Freshman Allissa Peterson made her collegiate debut with a 16th place finish as she crossed the line in 19:39.

Sophomore Alyssa Foss was the third Wildcat to finish and she was 19th overall in 19:50. Freshman Taylor Hite was close behind Foss in 19:56 to place 23rd in the race while junior Angi Wolgemuth was the final scorer for IWU with a 20:05 to earn 26th.

Indiana Wesleyan races again next week at the Highlander Invitational in Houghton, New York. The women's race begins at 3 p.m. and will be a 6K course.
