MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University won its sixth consecutive match Friday night with a convincing 3-0 win over visiting University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in Luckey Arena.
All six wins have come in Mid-Central College Conference play. During the win streak, Indiana Wesleyan has won 18-of-20 games.
The Wildcats (12-3, 6-1 MCC) won by scores of 25-11, 25-18, 25-17 for the three game victory. It's the fourth time the Wildcats have swept their opponent in the last five contests.
Senior outside hitter Kate Denlinger and sophomore outside hitter Rae Brandes combined for some heavy hitting for the Wildcats in the win. Denlinger ended the evening with a match-high 12 kills and a .688 kill percentage while Brandes added nine kills and a .533 attack percentage. Sophomore middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht also contributed offensively with eight kills and a .313 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Yui Iwase assisted on 24 kills while playing in just the first two games. Freshman Christi Benting added 13 assists while seeing time in all three games.
Defensively, Indiana Wesleyan finished play with 47 digs. Ten different Wildcats had at least one and reigning MCC Libero of the Week, senior Kelsey Masuda, led the way with 13. Junior defensive specialist Jordan Sudzina added eight and Benting had seven.
IWU blocked six Saint Francis (2-8, 1-6 MCC) hits on the night. Senior middle hitter Lauryn Barfell had a solo block and two block assists and Egebrecht added three assists.
Indiana Wesleyan, who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, returns to the court quickly as IWU hosts Marian (Ind.) University at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Luckey Arena.
