MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team continued their strong season effort by defeating Cornerstone (Mich.) University 8-0 on Thursday. The match was nearly complete but due to rain the remaining singles match could not be finished.
Teaming up at No. 1-doubles, Aubrey Lohser and Kim Mella cruised to an 8-0 victory while Sarah Richert and Diane Jones easily defeated their opponents 8-1 at No. 2-doubles. Rounding off an IWU doubles sweep, Kim Reisdorf and Bridget Christner overcame their opponents at No. 3-doubles with an 8-0 victory.
Singles play was quick and painless for the Wildcats, as Andrea Meyering defeated her opponent at No. 1-singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, Richert won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2-singles, and Jones swept her opponent at No. 3-singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Lohser beat her opponent 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5-singles, and at No. 6-singles Reisdorf won 6-4, 6-0. Mella was unable to finish her match due to rain at the No. 4-singles position. She was leading the match 6-0, 5-1.
With this victory, the Wildcats improve to 10-0 on the season. IWU will return to the court on Friday, September 30 against Goshen (Ind.) College for the last Mid-Central College Conference match of the season before the conference tournament begins.
