MARION, Ind. -- For the 20th straight year the Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team has won the Mid-Central College Conference.
Indiana Wesleyan kept their fall winning streak alive as it reached 206 on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Goshen (Ind.) College. IWU finishes the conference with a perfect 8-0 record. Indiana Wesleyan has now won every conference championship dating back to 1992.
Doubles play was strong for IWU as the No. 1-doubles team of Andrea Meyering and Rachael Heiniger won an 8-4 decision, Aubrey Lohser and Kim Mella were victorious at No. 2-doubles with an 8-2 win, and Diane Jones and Sarah Richert defeated their opponents 8-1 at the No. 3-doubles position.
Heiniger won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1-singles, Meyering easily defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2-singles, and Richert swept her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3-singles. At No. 4-singles, Jones was victorious with a 6-1, 6-0 win, Mella cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5-singles, and Lohser rounded out singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 6-singles position.
Indiana Wesleyan finishes the regular season play with a record of 11-0. Next up for the Wildcats will be Huntington (Ind.) University in the first round of the MCC Tournament. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4 at Indiana Wesleyan.
