MARION, Ind. -- No. 18-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball saw little resistance from visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University in a 3-0 win Friday night in Luckey Arena.
IWU dominated played in all three games for the convincing 25-14, 25-16, 25-12 victory. The win is the 15th for Indiana Wesleyan in its past 16 matches dating back to September 9.
The Wildcats limited the Cougars to -0.040 hitting on the night with 18 kills and 22 errors. Junior middle hitter Gina Porto led MVNU with only five kills.
Indiana Wesleyan (21-4, 10-2 MCC) blocked six Mount Vernon Nazarene attacking attempts on the evening. Sophomore middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht, senior middle hitter Peyton Thompson and senior middle hitter Lauryn Barfell all contributed one solo block and one block assist.
Thompson also had a big night offensively as she led all players with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. In all, 10 Wildcats finished with at least one kill and nine of them had multiple kills.
Friday night's match with Mount Vernon Nazarene (10-15, 4-9 MCC)was also the annual Pink Out Night. Indiana Wesleyan players and coaches wore pink to support those battling cancer and in memory of those who lost their battle with cancer.
Indiana Wesleyan will look to keep its hot streak alive with their next three contests all being road matches against Mid-Central College Conference opponents. IWU kicks off that stretch at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 at Huntington (Ind.) University.
