MISHAWAKA, Ind. --With a 3-0 victory tonight at Bethel (Ind.) College the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team clinched second place in the Mid-Central College Conference standings.
Indiana Wesleyan made quick work of Bethel (Ind.) (16-14, 8-10 MCC) by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-13. The victory improves the IWU conference record to 14-2 and secures the No. 2-seed for IWU in the upcoming MCC Tournament. Grace (Ind.) College remains two games back with only one left to play.
The Wildcats have now finished first or second in the MCC seven times in the 10 years Candace Moats has been head coach at Indiana Wesleyan. IWU improves to 30-4 overall and the program has six seasons of 30 or more wins in the last 10 years.
Senior middle hitter Peyton Thompson finished with 12 kills on the evening and sophomore middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht added 10. Junior setter Yui Iwase earned 33 assists in the win.
Senior libero Kelsey Masuda led the Wildcats with 18 digs and three aces. Senior outside hitter Kate Denlinger finished with 11 digs and Indiana Wesleyan blocked five Bethel attacking attempts.
Indiana Wesleyan equals their season long win streak at 12 and has captured 24 wins in their last 25 matches.
The regular season comes to a close on Friday as No. 15-ranked Indiana Wesleyan hosts No. 12-ranked Taylor (Ind.) University. The match begins at 7 p.m. in Luckey Arena. IWU will be celebrating Senior Night before and after the contest.
