NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Senior center Krystal Stoneking netted 28 points to lead No. 3-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball to a convincing 81-59 in a season opening victory at Holy Cross (Ind.) College.
Stoneking hit 12-of-18 shots and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line. The 28 points was just five points short of her career high.
Indiana Wesleyan plowed through host Holy Cross in the first 20 minutes of play, capturing a 43-22 lead as the teams headed into halftime. IWU shot 53.1-percent (17 of 32) from the field in the first half while holding Holy Cross to just 38.1-percent (8 of 21).
Three others players joined Stoneking in double digit scoring. Junior forward Paige Smith added 12 points with five rebounds, senior guard Stephanie Burtch scored 10 points, and junior guard Claire Freeman contributed 10 points and five assists.
Indiana Wesleyan also controlled the boards, on both ends of the floor. IWU out-rebounded Holy Cross 40-26 and pulled down 11 on the offensive end.
The Wildcats will host their home opener on Saturday against IU-South Bend. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
