MARION, Ind. -- Four new faces will join the Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer recruiting class for the 2012 season. Three others were announced last week.
Nicole Biggs, Jordan Harris, Sarah Nyhoff, and Kelsey Powell make up the next set of recruits announced by head coach Dr. John Bratcher. The four will begin their collegiate careers in the fall of 2012.
Nicole Biggs is a four year starter for Carroll High School, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She is a four year All-Conference selection and was the captain of her squad her senior year. Her team won three sectional titles and two regional championships. Biggs leaves Carroll as a top-10 all-time scorer, All-District honoree, and a selection as Honorable-Mention All-State.
The high school senior plays club soccer for the Ft. Wayne Fever which is one of the top clubs in the state of Indiana. She is graduating in the top 15-percent of her graduating class and is a member of the National Honor Society. In addition, she received the Silver Scholastics Art Award plus the ICGSA and ISCAA All-State awards. Biggs will be majoring in nursing at Indiana Wesleyan.
"Nicole is quick, scores goals, and earns assists because of her foot skills and vision of the field," said Bratcher. "As with her great skills and soccer experience, she fits in with our academic culture. Next year should be fun."
Jordan Harris is a 5-8 attacking player from Reidsville, North Carolina. She still has her senior season to play in the spring and will look to add to her accomplishments and the teams'.
Harris is a two-time All-Region selection and All-Conference choice. She was the runner-up for Conference Player of the Year in 2011 and she was voted MVP of her high school squad. Harris will be a four year starter and has received a scholar-athlete award each year. Four years of Honor Roll and induction into the high school's National Honor Society also showcases Harris' excellence off the field.
Harris plays club soccer for Greensboro United Soccer Association on the 93 Navy team. She still is able to find time to be in FCA, the Robotics Club, marching band, and serve in a student government office position. Besides majoring in Accounting, Harris wants to minor in International and Community Development.
Bratcher stated, "Jordan should make a significant impact in our attacking efforts. She blends into the squad with her academic prowess and spiritual values."
Sarah Nyhoff comes to Indiana Wesleyan as a 5-11 defender from Littleton, Colorado and is joining her high school teammate, Kelsey Powell. Nyhoff is the team captain and played all four years for her team and received an Honorable Mention All-Conference award. Her club team, the Colorado United Blue, has experienced a lot of success winning the Storm Cup and the Denver Cup.
Nyhoff will be graduating with honors.
"Sarah's height gives her a big advantage but I was equally pleased at her composure when she would collect the ball out of the air and calmly make a successful pass to a teammate," said Bratcher. "She can be dangerous on set pieces and we are looking forward to her contributions for the next four years."
Kelsey Powell joins Indiana Wesleyan with her high school teammate Sarah Nyhoff. She is a 5-7 goal keeper from Littleton, Colorado and plans to major in Intercultural Studies.
Powell has lettered all four years of her high school career and was named Academic All-State for her success in soccer and academics. She was on the honor roll for four years and is a member of her school's chapter of the National Honor Society. Powell plays club soccer for the Colorado United U-18 White team and has played in many tournaments around the United States.
"Kelsey has an enormous amount of competitive experience in goal due to her soccer club's travel. This will give her a foot in the door to challenge the other Wildcat keepers on the squad," stated Bratcher. "Our group of three goalkeepers is by far the best squad that IWU has ever had while I have been here. This will make each of them better and that greatly benefits our entire team's efforts to continue to compete at the national level."
