GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team saw the bats come alive on Thursday in a doubleheader sweep at Goshen (Ind.) College in Mid-Central College Conference action.

It took extra innings in the opening game, but Indiana Wesleyan captured the win 8-5 in eight innings. The nightcap was a different story as IWU rolled to an 11-2 victory for the sweep.

The Wildcats (13-16, 5-5 MCC) scored 19 runs on 28 hits as the sweep brought IWU to an even 5-5 record inside MCC play. And nearly every Wildcat was involved in the hit parade as 13 different players earned a hit in the doubleheader.

Centerfielder Quinn Nofziger was 2-of-5 in the first game with a run and three RBI. The game two offensive hero was first baseman Peter Engle. He finished 3-of-5 with a double, a run scored, and four RBI.

Goshen (7-18, 0-10 MCC) scored in the first inning of game one to lead 1-0. That lead held all the way into the sixth when Indiana Wesleyan plated four runs to lead 4-1. But Goshen responded with two runs in the sixth inning and then tied the game 4-4 in the seventh to send it to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Indiana Wesleyan loaded the bases with no outs. Quinn Nofziger doubled to clear the bases for a 7-4 lead. Rightfielder Craig Dollens later hit a sac fly to score Nofziger for the 8-4 lead. Goshen was able to get one run back in the bottom half of the inning but that was all for the 8-5 final score.

Sam Lewis was the pitcher of record for Indiana Wesleyan as he pitched a complete game. He allowed five runs on 10 hits with three walks and seven punch outs.

Third baseman Preston Fugita finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI while second baseman Jacob Murphy added a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored. Leftfielder Seth White earned the start and was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in.

The Wildcats completed the sweep by scoring runs early and often in game two. IWU quickly took a 3-0 lead after one inning and was never threatened. The Wildcats added two more in the third and then three runs in each the sixth and seventh innings for an 11-0 advantage. Starting pitcher Bryan Beachy lost the shutout in the bottom of the seventh as the Maple Leafs scored twice in the inning.

Bryan Beachy continues to impress as he pitched the complete game for the win. He allowed the two seventh inning runs and scattered nine hits and one run while striking out five.

Indiana Wesleyan sent 13 different players to the batter's box in game two and 12 of them registered at least one hit. Peter Engle had the three hit, four RBI performance and Seth White was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Craig Dollens was 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored.

Indiana Wesleyan and Goshen will continue their four game series on Saturday at Wildcat Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
