UPLAND, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's outdoor track and field won the program's seventh Mid-Central College Conference championship on Saturday and first since 2007.
Indiana Wesleyan scored 195 points over the weekend for the 25 point margin of victory. Bethel (Ind.) College, last year's champion, was runner-up with 170 points and host Taylor (Ind.) University took third at 152 points.
The conference championship is the seventh overall for the program. IWU has won half of the last 14 championships dating back to 1999. The men's team won its eighth title on Saturday and it is only the second time ever that both teams won MCC titles in the same season.
Indiana Wesleyan head coach John Foss was named MCC Coach of the Year following the meet on both the men's and women's sides.
The MCC Championship saw 15 Wildcats earn MCC All-Conference accolades for finishing in the top-three of their event. There were 12 individual All-Conference performances and three relays as 16 different Wildcats earned the recognition.
Victoria Lee won the only conference championship on Friday with a win in the Hammer Throw but was joined by two others on Saturday.
Tina Huffman won an individual title in the Shot Put with a NAIA ‘B' standard throw of 43 feet 9.75 inches. It was the best throw for Huffman this season. Indiana Wesleyan's third champion also came in a field event as Stephanie Colter won the High Jump. Colter was the only jumper to hit 5-5 on the day for the 10 points.
The Wildcats featured two events on Saturday that showcased the team's depth with three scorers.
In the 5,000-Meter Run, IWU featured Allissa Petersen with a runner-up finish in a time of 18 minutes 22.77 seconds. Beka Bentle joined Petersen as an All-Conference runner in the event with a third place time of 18:30.65 and Alyssa Foss was the third member to score in the event with a sixth place finish in 18:48.06. IWU scored 17 points in the race.
Indiana Wesleyan also had three scorers in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase. Kayla Ewert was the only Wildcat to be named All-Conference in the event as she was second in a time of 11:58.35. But Courtney Jensen crossed the line fourth in 12:09.60 and Brooke McGaughey took seventh in 12:22.91 as the Wildcats added 15 more points to their total.
Allix Miller, a freshman, earned three MCC All-Conference accolades on Saturday after earning one more on Friday in the Long Jump. Miller added another individual honor in the 400-Meter Dash with a third place finish in 59.20 seconds.
Miller's final two All-Conference performances came in relays. Miller, Kyla Morgan, Amanda Johnson, and Tracey Tiernon were runner-up in the 4x400-Meter Relay in a time of 4:00.75. Miller, Morgan, Tiernon, and Anna Henry then teamed for a third place run of 50.23 seconds in the 4x100-Meter Relay.
Christina Sandberg gained an individual MCC All-Conference honor in the 1,500-Meter Run on Saturday to go along with her second place finish in the 4x800-Meter Relay on Friday. Sandberg was runner-up in the 1,500 in a time of 4:50.37. Tori Lee, who scored in the Long Jump on Friday, earned conference accolades in the Triple Jump today with a third place finish. She leaped 34-4.75 for the six points.
Indiana Wesleyan will next compete in the NCCAA National Championship in Elgin, Illinois. The three day meets begins on Thursday, May 3.
