MARION, Ind. -- Point Park (Pa.) University won the 2012 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round Marion Bracket that was held at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Point Park earns a bid to the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho on May 25-June 1. Point Park is one of 10 teams that will compete for the national championship in a double elimination format. The trip will be the 11th all-time for Point Park, but the first since 1998.
The Pioneers went 3-0 in the five team double-eliminationl tournament. The tournament's second seed opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over No. 3-seed Taylor (Ind.) University on Thursday. On Friday, the Pioneers soundly defeated No. 5-seed Doane (Neb.) College 9-1 to advance to the championship where they once again ran into Doane. Point Park had to win just one of two games and they would finish off Doane Saturday night 7-5 with a two-run eighth inninng.
