Men's Outdoor Track & Field - Thu, May. 31, 2012

MARION, Ind. --Michael Moffitt has signed to become a member of the Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball and men's track and field teams beginning in the 2012-2013 season.

Moffitt is a 6 foot 7 inch post player and high jumper from Marion, Indiana and went to Oak Hill High School.

As a basketball player for the Golden Eagles, Moffitt averaged 7.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and was named All-Central Indiana Conference First Team.

"Our staff is excited about having Michael join our team," says Indiana Wesleyan men's basketball head coach Greg Tonagel. "Michael has great potential as a basketball player because of his size and athleticism. He also fits in great with the culture of our program because of his commitment to faith, his high character, and his strong work ethic."

Moffitt is a standout track athlete, currently holding the one of the top high jump in the state this season at 6 feet, 8.25 inches.

"Michael has had just a terrific track season again. He's fairly new to the sport but in the last two years he has really become a force," said Indiana Wesleyan head track and field coach John Foss. "He's jumped 6 feet 8.25 inches this year and he's easily won the Sectional and Regional so all that is left is State and I think he has a really good chance to win the State championship. So he brings to us a young man who's got a lot of maturity and discipline. He can come right in right away and be an All-American in the High Jump and his future in High Jump, even beyond college, is outstanding. He could be a future Olympian."

Moffitt will join the Indiana Wesleyan baseball and track and field teams for the 2012-13 seasons. The men's basketball team advanced to the NAIA National Championship Tournament this year while the track and field team was 29th at the NAIA National Championship.
