FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis team ran away with the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament championship this weekend in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Indiana Wesleyan earned 19 points despite two players competing in Mobile, Alabama in the ITA National Small College Championships. Bethel (Ind.) College finished second with 10 points.

Marian (Ind.) College was third with eight points while Huntington (Ind.) University and Taylor (Ind.) University tied for fourth place with seven points each. Grace (Ind.) College ended in sixth place with six points and Goshen (Ind.) College was seventh with four points. Spring Arbor (Mich.) University was eighth with two points and the University of St. Francis did not score.

Four Wildcats claimed singles titles for Indiana Wesleyan. Senior Brittany Raymond (No. 3-singles), freshman Lisa Massey (No. 4-singles), senior Kristi Haddad (No. 5-singles) and sophomore Courtney Kooyers (No. 6-singles) all won three matches to win their respective class.

Junior Julia Hedgebeth finished runner-up in No. 1 singles.

Kooyers and senior Sarah Bauss defeated the field in No 3-doubles to earn the championship. The No. 1-doubles tandem of Ryamond and Haddad were defeated in the semifinals as did Massey and Hedgebeth in No. 2-doubles action.

Indiana Wesleyan claimed many honors for their strong showing at the MCC Tournament. Hedgebeth, freshman Eva Delk, Ryamond, Massey and Haddad were all named MCC All-Conference. Terry Porter was named the MCC Coach of the Year.
