MARION, Ind. -- For the first time in 2012-13 the No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball team had the Crossroads League Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Senior forward Paige Smith was named the winner on Monday afternoon.
The honor is the third in Smith's career and her first this season. The women's basketball weekly award is the first for any Wildcat this year.
Smith led the league's top seed to the Crossroads League Tournament championship game with an impressive performance in the first two rounds of postseason. Smith averaged 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in a First Round win over Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University and a Semifinal victory against Huntington (Ind.) University. She scored 22 points in each game and finished the period with a 73.9-shooting percentage.
Indiana Wesleyan is currently 30-2 on the season and won a share of its fourth straight Crossroads League regular season title. IWU hosts No. 4 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) tonight at 7 p.m. in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship.
