MARION, Ind. -- The Mark Richards Tournament was able to be played on Saturday at the Sutter Tennis Center in Marion. Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis won both of their matches over IU Southeast and IU East.
No. 25-ranked Indiana Wesleyan did not lose a match today as the Wildcats won 9-0 in both matches. The victories improve Indiana Wesleyan’s record to 17-5 this season.
Indiana Wesleyan had little troubles in their 9-0 win over IU Southeast.
Kyle Johnson and Daniel Stoddard won the top doubles match 8-0 and Leonard Mathews teamed with Brandon Dubuque to also win 8-0 in No. 2-doubles. Brooks Ayers and Daniel Smith completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win in the third match.
The wins were nearly as easy in singles play. Johnson and Mathews did not drop a game in the top two singles matches with 6-0, 6-0 victories. Dubuque, Stoddard, Ayers, and Kamen Tabor won their matches in straight sets.
Indiana Wesleyan finished Saturday with another 9-0 victory as the Wildcats beat IU East.
In doubles, Johnson and Stoddard were victorious 8-4 in the No. 1 match. Mathews and Dubuque cruised to an 8-1 win in No. 2-doubles while Ayers and Smith earned a convincing 8-0 win in No. 3-doubles.
In singles contests, Indiana Wesleyan continued the theme of straight set victories. Starting with the No. 1-singles match, Johnson won 6-1, 6-1; Mathews earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory; Dubuque cruised 6-0, 6-0; Stoddard easily won the point 6-0, 6-0; Ayers won 6-0, 6-0; and Alex Hornett finished with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play in the NCCAA Regional Tournament on April 25-26 in Marion.
