MARION, Ind. -- Gavin White will join the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team beginning in the 2013-14 season. White is from Lakeland, Florida and comes to Indiana Wesleyan with a decorated career from George Jenkins High School.
White advanced to the Florida State Tournament in No. 1-singles and double this year as a senior. He ended his high school career by advancing to the Florida State Semifinals in singles competition.
“Gavin is an outstanding recruit that will make our young talented team reach the next level,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Keith Ruberg. “Gavin will come in as a freshman and make an immediate positive impact on our team. He is one of the top players in Florida with impressive wins over some DI tennis players.”
White has played No. 1-singles and doubles all four years at George Jenkins High School. During his illustrious prep career he defeated numerous top-ranked players in Florida. White won District championships in doubles and was named All-County in each of his four seasons. He was East County champion and won District and Regional championship this past year in No. 1-singles and doubles.
“Not only is Gavin a great talent but he is also an outstanding young man off the court,” added Ruberg. “Gavin came highly recommended by former Indiana Wesleyan tennis standout Joel Helm. We are extremely happy to have Gavin joint our tennis family.”
Indiana Wesleyan won the NCCAA Midwest Regional championship this past weekend to advance to the NCCAA National Championship. IWU will compete in the national event on May 6-10 in Mobile, Alabama.
