MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University earned a 6-3 win over Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) University on Thursday in the regular season finale of the 2013 season. The match was rescheduled from the Mark Richards Tournament that was played a week and a half ago.
The Wildcats won five of the six singles matches to overcome a 2-1 deficit after doubles competition. The win moves IWU to 19-5 on the season.
Kyle Johnson and Daniel Stoddard won the only doubles match for Indiana Wesleyan which was the top billing. Johnson and Stoddard won by an 8-2 margin. Brooks Ayers and Daniel Smith fell 8-5 in No. 2-doubles while the duo of Leonard Mathews and Kamen Tabor lost 8-6 in No. 3-doubles.
Indiana Wesleyan rebounded in singles matches to claim the 6-3 victory. Johnson (4-6, 6-0, 6-0) won No. 1-singles, Mathews (6-0, 6-2) won the second match, Stoddard (6-0, 6-1) earned the point in No. 3-singles, Ayers (6-4, 6-2) was victorious in the fourth spot, and Smith (2-6, 6-1, 6-2) won in No. 5-singles. Tabor lost 7-5, 6-4 in No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan will end their season next week at the NCCAA National Championship. The competition will be held May 7-10 in Mobile, Alabama.
