NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis debuted the 2013 team with an easy 8-1 victory over IU Southeast on Saturday in New Albany, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan started quickly with a sweep in doubles competitions. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella teamed at No. 1-doubles for an 8-3 victory while Kristin Futrell and Rachel Bottorff claimed an 8-3 victory in No. 2-doubles. Courtney Siepman and Ellen Hornett completed the sweep in doubles with an 8-4 decision at No. 3-doubles.
The Wildcats continued to roll in singles matches with wins in five of the six matches. Wilson earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1-singles and Bottorff took a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2-singles. Mella won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3-singles, Futrell earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5-singles, and Siepman won the point 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6-singles. Rachael Heiniger lost the only singles match Saturday in a 6-7, 1-6 decision in No. 3-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan will next open the Crossroads League schedule at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with their first home match of the season versus Goshen (Ind.) College at the Sutter Tennis Center.
