MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University breezed by Spring Arbor (Mich.) today by an 8-1 decision in women’s tennis action at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The victory improves the Wildcats’ record to 3-0 overall this season and 2-0 in Crossroads League action. The Cougars drop to 1-1 this season with both matches coming in league play.
Indiana Wesleyan swept doubles matches to begin the match and gain a 3-0 advantage. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella claimed an 8-0 victory in the No. 1 match, Kristen Futrell and Rachel Bottorff won 8-1 in No. 2 play, and Courtney Siepman teamed with Ellen Hornett at No. 3-doubles to win 8-3.
The Wildcats followed with five wins in singles matches to claim the 8-1 team victory. Wilson (6-0, 6-1) won at the top position, Bottorff (6-1, 6-0) earned the point in No. 2-singles, Mella (6-3, 6-0) won No. 4-singles, Futrell (6-2, 6-2) was victorious in the No. 5 match, and Siepman (6-1, 6-1) won in the No. 6 position. Rachael Heiniger dropped a 6-4, 6-7, 10-12 marathon at the No. 3-spot.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the courts at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bethel (Ind.) in Mishawaka, Indiana.
