MARION, Ind. -- In non-conference action the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis team defeated visiting Northwestern Ohio 8-1 on Tuesday at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan started the match quickly with a sweep in doubles matches. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella cruised to an 8-1 win in No. 1-doubles while Rachel Bottorff and Kristen Futrell won by an 8-4 margin in No. 2 doubles. Courtney Siepman and Ellen Hornett completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win in the third position.
The Wildcats captured five of six contests in singles matches to complete the 8-1 team victory.
Wilson (No. 1) earned a 6-2, 6-0 win, Bottorff (No. 2) dominated to the tune of a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, Mella (No. 4) outlasted the competition 4-6, 6-3, 10-3, Futrell (No. 5) won in straight sets 6-0, 7-6, and Siepman (No. 6) won by a 7-5, 6-3 score. Rachael Heiniger (No. 3) was the only Wildcat to fall on Tuesday by a score of 0-6, 2-6.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 5-0 this season and Northwestern Ohio loses for the first time to fall to 2-1. IWU remains in non-league play as they remain home for a match with Anderson (Ind.) at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
