MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis had no trouble in defeating Anderson (Ind.) by a 9-0 score Thursday night in non-league action at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The Wildcats cruised to their sixth win during the fall season by dropping just 13 games combined. IWU showcased its depth with many starters not playing on Thursday.
Katie Wilson and Kim Mella won the No. 1-doubles battle with an 8-3 win. The No. 2-doubles team of Kristen Futrell and Rachel Bottorff plus the No. 3 team of Courtney Siepman and Ellen Hornett each won their matches by 8-0 scores.
The dominance carried over into singles play as each Wildcat won by straight sets. Bottorff won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1-singles match and Rachael Heiniger carried a 6-4, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 contest. Diane Jones won 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3-singles and Gabby D’Aniello earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Completing the sweep was Mikayla Marazzi in the fifth match with a 6-0, 6-0 win and Kelsey Vessels at No. 6-singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to Crossroads League competition at 11 a.m. on Saturday versus Grace (Ind.). The match will be played in Winona Lake, Indiana.
